Briceño Tells Feuding Senators in Albert to Hold it Down

John Briceño

Another flashpoint for the P.U.P. is the June seventeenth contested convention in the Albert division. Current standard bearer Senator Paul Thompson is being challenged by his Upper House colleague Valerie Woods. Both lay claim to support from inside the division and long ties to it and the competition has been fierce. On Friday night, police were called to Independence Hall to quell a dispute during the vetting of the voters’ list in the division. Previously Senator Thompson’s registered address in the division was questioned as it is the property of his United Democratic Party rival’s mother.  But P.U.P. leader John Briceño says that while he believes it could be toned down, the competition is healthy and will lead to victory for the blue there in the general election.

John Briceño, Leader, P.U.P.

“That shows the level of excitement and energy that the P.U.P. is developing, and it shows that people really want to be a part of the P.U.P. It shows that people believe we are going to form the next government; that’s why they are fighting tooth and nail to try to win. I wish we could tone it down a bit. And my recommendation has always been, guys, let’s not be personal; go out there and do a positive campaign, but you will always have your supporters that you can’t control as best as you wish. It’s a part of politics; it’s a part of the contact sport, as we would say. We wish it would not be as that. But I am very excited about the Albert division, because the Albert division, they have always felt that it’s a U.D.P. division. But I firmly believe that any of those two candidates that are elected on June seventeenth will be the next area representative in Albert.”
