G.O.B. Says They Will Adhere to Process

Tracey Panton

As far as it is known, no fines have been imposed on the Spanish company for violating the EPZ status despite warnings by the Ministry of Trade and Investment. So is the government being too soft on Santander by now considering a waiver to its current EPZ certificate? On Thursday, Minister Tracey Panton said that there will be consultations with all parties involved and then a final decision will be made by the Export Processing Zone Committee. Here’s what she had to say.

“Some people have expressed not wanting to give them a waiver; what would you consider in deciding whether or not Santander gets the waiver?”

Tracey Panton, Minister of State, Trade and Investment

“That is really premature. As I indicated, there is a process that we must go through, a process that includes consultation with the relevant Government Ministries and agencies, consultations with the key stakeholders in the sugar industry. After all that has been done, I suppose it would be a period of two weeks or so, all the information will be collated and it will be presented to the EPZ Committee for consideration.”
