Cayo to Host Opening

Shary Medina

Planning Belize’s biggest party is no joke for the September Celebrations Commission and the municipal councils, not to mention the various service organizations involved. While a few of the dates to mark your calendar are already set, such as for the Carnival Road March and Expo Belize, the celebrations will start to take shape over the next few months as the days fly by. Shary Medina offered a few tidbits today.

Shary Medina, Associate Director for Communications, Business Development and Marketing, NICH

“The first meeting was held on Wednesday, May thirtieth; that was the inaugural meeting. There are follow-up meetings to be held and so far yes, there have been certain dates placed on the calendar. And the meeting on Wednesday will be looking forward to meet with the different municipalities to be able to come up with their events that they need to have scheduled and submitted for us to have the playbills out. So it’s important that all the events come in on time so that the playbills can go out on time. And once those are in then the events will be able to flow properly.”

“The opening ceremony last year was in Orange Walk; are there any plans to return to St. George’s Caye or move somewhere else?”

Shary Medina

“It’s a lottery pick; last year the lottery pick was won by Orange Walk and at the same time the lottery pick was held for another district which is the municipality of San Ignacio/Santa Elena. So this year the official launch will be in the West, in San Ignacio and Santa Elena Towns.”

Look out for further announcements about the upcoming logo competition and National Song Competition which is typically held in August.
