Cop Faces Internal, Court Charges for Police Station Altercation

Joseph Myvett

A police officer is in trouble tonight in the wake of a domestic dispute in front of the police station. A verbal exchange between the pair of officers attached to the San Ignacio Police Station last Thursday around four p.m. has resulted in a police constable facing disciplinary charges for brandishing a firearm and pointing it at his colleague inside the precinct. News Five understands that PC Benjamin became upset after his colleague gave his girlfriend’s number to a cadet. That led to the altercation in which PC Benjamin drew his police-issued nine millimeter handgun and aimed it at the officer. It was all caught on camera and while the matter is being dealt with in-house, court action is being sought against Benjamin for endangering the life of his fellow constable.

ACP Joseph Myvett, Head, National Crimes Investigation Branch

“Yes indeed, there was an incident involving two constables, one being PC Benjamin.  There is an ongoing investigation and it is my understanding that PC Benjamin has since been charged disciplinary, but court action is requested so the file is being reviewed in order to determine whether there is sufficient evidence to substantiate any charge.”

“Okay, sir is there a higher standard or a higher threshold of evidence for police officers who commit offences insofar as this was caught on security camera, it happened in plain view of other officers, there are corroborating statements from the duty officer, the sergeant at the time, that a gun was pulled and cocked against another officer.  That, if anyone does that in the street against a police officer in plain view, on security camera and there are corroborating statements, they would have already been remanded.”

ACP Joseph Myvett

“In this case it did not happen in that manner, in that in its preliminary stage I have been informed that the constable requested no court action, but later on requested court action into the matter, hence the reason.  And in any case, all files would have to be reviewed.”
