Trio Sought in Murder of “Monty” Lipka

Lamont Lipka

There is some progress in the investigation into the brazen killing of American national Lamont Lipka in San Pedro. On Sunday night, the forty-nine-year-old restaurateur, better known as “Monty”, was shot and killed in front of his employees and customers inside his restaurant, Tropical Bar and Grill.  Lipka was shot six times to the face and neck; the gunman then stood over him and fired more shots before fleeing from the building on Coconut Drive. Today, police say they are looking for three persons in connection with this homicide, believed to have been a hit. ASP Alejandro Cowo says that the likely motive cannot be disclosed at this time.

“Police is continuing its investigation; there is significant progress in the case and we are looking for three persons at this moment that can assist in that investigation.”

“Are you able to say if his recent court case has any connection to his death?”

ASP Alejandro Cowo

“We are not sure but that is one of the points that we are looking at as we have other information in regards to him.”

“Can you say whether these three suspects are from the island or whether they are from Belize City?”

ASP Alejandro Cowo

“Originally, they are not from the island but they have been at the island for quite some time noh.”

Duane Moody

“Has police been any closer to finding out what was the reason behind the killing of Mister Lipka given the fact that nothing was stolen from the restaurant?”

ASP Alejandro Cowo

“I know that nothing was stolen from him so the motive we have ruled out that it is robbery. We are looking at a different angle, but it is something that we have to withhold that information because it is still part of the investigation that is at a young stage.”
