2 Seek Bail on 4-Year-Old Murder Charge

Jedd Burgess & Micah Tillett

There has been a recent trend of accused murderers seeking bail while on remand for their charges. It is a symptom of the heavy backlog in cases at the Supreme Court, and defense attorneys have been taking advantage; though not all cases have been successful.  Today, Tibruce Street residents Jedd Burgess and Micah Tillett sought bail on a murder charge after being on remand for four years. They were charged in September of 2013 for the death of Jamaal Neal, who was gunned down on Banak Street. Burgess, represented by Darrell Bradley, and Tillett, represented by Leeroy Banner, argue that they have suffered unreasonable delay in going on trial and face weak evidence, particularly from the Crown witness whose statements to police have been inconsistent at best. Supreme Court Justice Marilyn Williams has reserved her ruling for Wednesday, May twenty-third, 2018.
