Manslaughter Charges after O.W. Beating Victim Dies

Joseph Myvett

More than two weeks after Demetrio Pott and his brother were badly beaten following a traffic accident in Trial Farm, Orange Walk on April twenty-seventh.  The forty-seven-year-old succumbed to his injuries this Saturday at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital after he and his brother were attacked immediately after they had crashed into another vehicle. Late Thursday evening, twenty-six-year-old immigration officer Leodegario Chan, twenty-four-year-old welder Carlos Westby and twenty-eight-year-old Delthran Perez, all of Trial Farm Village, were jointly charged with crime of Dangerous Harm. In the wake of Pott’s demise, ACP Joseph Myvett says that the charge has been upgraded to manslaughter.

“In relation to that matter of Demetrio Pott, police have since arrested the three persons who were previously arrested: Beltran Perez, Carlos Westby and Leodegario Chan have since been arrested for the crime of Manslaughter.”

“So those charges were upgraded?”

“Now the attorney for two of the accused claims that in fact the injuries were caused by the accident, which they say had an enormous impact and two they say that both of the Pott brothers were inebriated. Now have you guys looked at it, have you all confirmed that the injuries are consistent with the trauma of a beat down as opposed to the trauma of an accident?”

ACP Joseph Myvett

“Well I believe the postmortem should be scheduled for today or sometime later this week in relation to that.”
