Kevaughan Staine Guilty of Attempted Murder of Cousin

Kevaughan “Bigga” Staine

Twenty-one-year-old Kevaughan “Bigga” Staine remains on remand after he was convicted on a charge of attempted murder for trying to kill his own cousin, nineteen-year-old Taisha Staine.  The near fatal-incident happened back in 2013 in Saint Martin De Porres area on December thirteenth, 2013.  Taisha was walking to a nearby shop when she reportedly saw Kevaughan on a bike.  Moments after he rode by, he turned around and shot her once in the back. The gunman reportedly pursued her when she tried to run away and when she collapsed, he shot her as many as seven times to the neck, chest, hand, leg and thigh. Taisha’s mother allegedly witnessed the shooting and she and her daughter testified before the court today.  In Kevaughan’s defense, attorney Hubert Elrington said that it was a case of mistaken identity. He told the court that his client was wrongfully accused and that he didn’t shoot his cousin. Kevaughan’s sentencing was deferred until September twenty-fourth, 2018, as a social report is now required as part of the sentencing guidelines for offenses such as murder and attempted murder.  Justice Colin Williams has ordered both sides to provide the court with submission on sentencing by September. Kevaughan was only seventeen-years-old when he was accused of the charge of attempted murder of Taisha. He has another attempted murder charge pending trial at the Supreme Court.
