Teen Girl Charged for Near-Fatal Stabbing is Remanded

Renesha Alvarez

Nineteen-year-old Renesha Alvarez is behind bars tonight, charged with dangerous harm against her domestic partner, who is in a critical but stable condition at the hospital. Alvarez is accused of stabbing nineteen-year-old Herman Solis during an argument. She was arraigned before Chief Magistrate Sharon Frazer without legal representative and no plea was taken. On the question of bail, the prosecution submitted that Alvarez is safer behind bars because, according to police, relatives and associates of Solis have openly threatened her.  Worse, Solis has to undergo two surgeries for injuries to the chest and if he dies, her charge can be upgraded to murder. Alvarez told the Chief Magistrate that they argued over a phone and he was holding her in a lock. She fought her way out and went for a knife, but he followed and ran into the point of the blade. Alvarez returns to court on May twenty-fifth.
