P.G. man meets death in early morning in Old Capital

A Punta Gorda resident also lost his life in an execution style murder just before midnight on Friday. Twenty-five-year-old Albert Johnson was attacked by a trio of men as he made his way on foot toward Regent Street. He was walking from Southern Foreshore unto Rectory Lane when he was fired upon twice. Those rounds found their marks on his forehead and back of the head. His murder has left Belize City police stumped, as there are no clues that would indicate a motive in the fatal incident. This morning, Inspector Wilfredo Ferrufino shared what investigators have been able to establish thus far.

Insp. Wilfredo Ferrufino, C.I.B., Belize City

Insp Wilfredo Ferrufino

“On the twentieth of April, sometime around eleven p.m., police responded to a shooting on Rectory Lane in Belize City.  On arrival, police discovered the motionless body of a male person lying on the street.  He was identified to be that of Albert Irvin Johnson, a twenty-five-year-old resident of Punta Gorda.  Examination of the body determined that he was shot twice, one to the forehead and one to the back of the head.  From what police have gathered so far is that Mr. Johnson was walking on Rectory Lane in the direction of Regent Street when he was approached by three male persons, one of whom pulled a firearm and fired shots in his direction, causing the fatal injuries.  Several persons have been detained for that investigation and the matter is still under investigation.  Nobody has been charged as yet.”

“Do police have any ideas as to why a PG man was killed in Belize City?”

Wilfredo Ferrufino

“Well I’m sure that the investigation is ongoing.  I’m sure that the investigators are trying to establish that, however, I do not have any details in regards to that at this point.”

“Do police have any details on this man’s life?  Was he employed or doing anything of that sort?”

Wilfredo Ferrufino

“I don’t have any details in regards to that.”
