Airport Authority Updates on Municipal and Caye Caulker repairs

The Belize Airports Authority confirms that works will be carried out on the runway of the Sir Barry Bowen Municipal Airport this weekend. The scheduled remedial works, however, for the next four days are not expected to interrupt operations and flights will be relocated to the taxiway which is equipped to be used as a temporary runway. General Manager Nick Ruiz told News Five this afternoon that the works have nothing to do with the original construction of the runway done by Imer Hernandez.  The works are part of the Authority’s strategic plan which includes regular upgrades of the country’s aerodrome network. In related news, works on the Caye Caulker Municipal Airstrip for which Hernandez also has the contract are underway. These include rehabilitation and widening of the runway and a new lighting system for night time landings. The facility is expected to be reopened to air traffic in June.
