All of Belize Getting Share of Tourism Pie

Jocelle Stephen

While we know where they are coming from, where are the tourists going? Popular destinations like Placencia, San Pedro and Caye Caulker, and the San Ignacio-Benque Viejo area remain cream of the crop, but there is an even distribution for both overnight and cruise visitors according to Stephen.

“We’ve seen that they’re going to all the regions of Belize. Yes, the cayes are a major attraction, so is Cayo, but we’re seeing that these visitors in the first quarter have visited every region.”

“So there’s no discrimination if you will?”

Jocelle Stephen

“Of course not, and it shows that Belize is diverse, it shows that Belize has so much to offer that every region there is an attraction by some part of our target market, so that speaks to the fact that we are diverse.”

“And in terms of the cruise ship visits, those are a bit more limited in terms of you can only go to Belize City and Harvest Caye and there are specific attractions in each.”

“Even though we do have those ports of entry, our cruise ports, we’ve noticed that they are actually going to different parts of the region as well. They’ve done Maya visit temples, they’ve done City tours, they’ve done cave tubing, they’ve done snorkeling, swimming, horseback riding, kayaking, even Bacab is visited for example. So even though the cruise comes in, we still see that they’re going to different places.”
