As you’ve heard, Foreign Affairs Minister Elrington says Panama has been supporting the territorial integrity of Government of Belize since 1981.  Next Saturday, Guatemala will be holding its referendum on taking its territorial claim of Belize to the International Court of Justice. At the signing of today, Elrington noted that Panama is among the Group of Friends at the Organization of American States which is supporting a resolution of the territorial dispute.

“Panama also continues to support both Belize and Guatemala as our two countries assiduously pursue our quest to arrive at an amicable and just solution to the longstanding territorial claim by Guatemala over our country under the auspices of the Organization of American States. Panama is a member of the group of friendly countries which closely supports and monitors the development of the relationship between our two countries and both Belize and Guatemala are eternally grateful to Panama for its selfless interest in protecting our countries and in fact ensuring that our region remains one that is peaceful, safe and secure.”
