Kareem Musa Slams “Old Boxer” P.M.

Kareem Musa

Like his veteran representative father Said Musa, Caribbean Shores representative Kareem Musa has become a must-see attraction during the Budget debate and today was no exception. He differed slightly from Opposition Leader John Briceño, who on Thursday said the budget lacked “Barrow-gance.” Musa assured that it’s still there, but it was more of the “punch-drunk” variety.

Kareem Musa, Area Rep., Caribbean Shores

“Madam Speaker, I begin by declaring this a “Barrow-gant” budget during a state of emergency. “Barrow-gant” because it lacks creativity and imagination, it lacks energy; it is a budget in a coma. A lifeless body of fancy words that do not in any way reflect the true Belizean reality of struggle and hardship. A lazy excuse of a budget that was prepared without any effort or vision; no consultation with private sector partners like the Belize Chamber of Commerce; no engagement with social partners like the Teachers’ Union and other community groups; sure signs, Madam Speaker, that this is a lame-duck, farewell budget.  The Prime Minister is just so battered and tired and so desperately wants out, and it is showing in his insensitive and vision less decisions. Mr. Karl Leacock, in his Facebook post, described the Prime Minister’s decision best, when he said the Prime Minister has lost it like an old boxer trying to hang in there for the bell; history will not be kind to him. Like the member for Lake Independence said yesterday, Madam Speaker, crime is everybody’s business; so I’m not standing here blaming the Prime Minister for all the senseless killings taking over the streets; he’s not the one pulling the trigger, so to speak. But I do blame this administration, Madam Speaker, for creating the perfect environment, the perfect breeding ground for crime to grow.”
