The Manifesto for Linda Adopted

Lisa Shoman

The teachers went on to endorse Manifesto for Linda as their demands are included in the document. With the support of the Ministry of Human Development and the Speaker of the House, the proposal is to make changes for a safer Belize for our children and women, who are victims of violence and sexual abuse. The manifesto, as presented by Attorney at Law Lisa Shoman, is inspired by the life of and death of Hermelinda Pinks who was killed in mid-February by her husband Jason Emmanuel before he took his life. The proposed action ranges from education to counseling of the populace.

“It’s more than violence against women; the manifesto for Linda tries to address family violence. Domestic violence, but more wider family violence and today my wider topic is crime and violence. The urban terrorism that we are facing, the problems, the real problems that we have in our society and how teachers can work together along with the rest of us to try and make Belize a less violent society. The manifesto for Linda is simply a call to arms. It is an action agenda with practical changes. And I really want to thank the Special Envoy, the Speaker of the House and the C.E.O. of the Ministry of Human Development for sitting down to talk about these changes and to recognize that these are things that can be done and will be done.”
