Three thousand eight hundred and ninety-five registered electors are in that town and two thousand three hundred and eighteen went to the polls on Wednesday. From the results, the U.D.P.’s work in the town proved successful.  Juliet Thimbriel and other big names in the party reportedly spent months on the ground campaigning to secure the win. Returning Officer Miriam Codd gives the numbers for the winning team and we hear the confidence of the mayor-elect Ashton McKenzie.

Ashton McKenzie, Mayor-elect, Punta Gorda

“I definitely feel very confident. My team and I have invested an extensive amount of time on the ground doing our groundwork. It has been very receptive.  The energy level has been high and the support has definitely been there.  Leadership has always been an area of interest for me and like with anything else you continue to build yourself, build your base. You work and you allow people to see that and to buy into the vision that you share. My ultimate goal is to be a Minster of Government but you just don’t reach there. You have to build yourself high.  I transcended from being the president of my high school to being the president of my university locally and nationally I serve on numerous government and non-government boards here In Punt Gorda and across the country. I have had the opportunity to serve as a councilor and two –term deputy-mayo. I am simply making the steps necessary to ensure that ending of the day, while my aspirations continue to grow, Iam definitely working for the people of my municipality.”
