No Punishment, Says P.M., but Few Resources

Dean Barrow

The People’s United Party now claims three of nine municipalities, including Belize City.  With a United Democratic Party central government, how will they fare off for the next two years?  That’s what we asked Prime Minister Barrow at his press conference earlier today.  While he admits that Belize City, Orange Walk and Corozal will continue to receive their subventions, he acknowledges that the resources are limited.  It does not necessarily mean, however, that those resources will be evenly distributed across all nine municipalities.

Prime Minister Dean Barrow

“We are sworn not to punish anyone, that’s not our style.  But the resources are limited and so it is a matter of judicious allocation and I don’t know if judicious necessarily means equal.  So we will try to assist everybody, but I am reminded of that good old Jamaican saying, “Parson christen ih pickney first.”  That’s all I will say sir.”
