P.U.P. Cries Shame on Port Loyola Rep

Bernard Wagner

While on the ground in Port Loyola, the P.U.P. were sure to put their two cents in on the revelations made by Kirk Lamb on Tuesday night. Standard bearer Gilroy Usher Senior and mayoral candidate Bernard Wagner both deplored what they see as bare-faced corruption and mishandling of public funds.

“The news item that came out last night – Boots Martinez. One of his workers essentially saying that I used to work with this guy; monies deposited into my account, monies taken out of my account, that is a clear indication; a clear indictment.”

“It’s a shame, but that is typical of the area representative. And that explains how he can have so many large concrete houses all over the division. It’s because he is siphoning off the money that should go for building proper houses for the people; for marginalized Belizeans. You know when I travel around Port Loyola – I recently visited a home, one of the homes that government supposed to build for the home. No electrical wiring, no partition, no ceiling, no bathroom facility. And to get a little privacy, you know what the owner had to do? He had to take cardboard boxes and fix that for the partition. Now here you have the Minister of Housing giving people shells, but at the same time they’re siphoning off thousands of dollars that could be used to provide our people with proper homes. So I think it’s a shame and I hope the people take note of it. And that is another reason why we all need to join forces on Wednesday and vote them out, because we are tired of the injustice and the corruption in this country.”

Late this evening, the P.U.P. called for the removal of Minister Anthony ‘Boots’ Martinez, accusing him of siphoning money from the Government and using the private accounts of Port Loyola residents to redirect that money into the Housing for the Poor organization which he controls. The P.U.P. says it is a clear violation of the law and should result in his removal from cabinet. It is alleged that ‘fake’ contractors received government monies to build houses, which were never built. The release states, “startling accusation of criminal wrongdoing by a sitting Minister is cause for alarm. The fact that it is backed up by documentary evidence is more than enough for a criminal investigation into those allegations. The People’s United Party condemns the outrageous larceny which has seen public coffers raided and raped.”
