Bail for Murder Accused Daniel Myvett?

Daniel Myvett

Daniel Myvett was tried nearly four years ago for the February 2010 murder of Nigerian security guard Kabiru Oloungududu with two others, Jamaal Jackson and Talbert Mena. They walked free, but the jury was hung in regard to Myvett and a re-trial was ordered. Since then, Myvett has been behind bars and now attorney Alifa Elrington is seeking bail for him. Arguments were heard today by Supreme Court Justice Marilyn Williams. Elrington argued that the original trial was not fair to her client as according to convention the jury returned before a standard four hours of deliberation and his re-trial has been unduly delayed. Crown Counsel in the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions Porsha Staine-Ferguson countered that there is evidence against Myvett tying him to the murder and that no special reasons or circumstances were presented in his favor. Judgment was reserved for February twenty-third. Kabiru Olongundudu was shot and stabbed while on duty at the Belize Biltmore Plaza in February of 2010. Last year Justice Adolph Lucas granted bail to Nelson Henry in a similar case, the death of Edward Lord, and in his trial in January he was acquitted.
