Canadian National Wanted in Belize, Arrested for Drug Possession

Jordan Bacchus

On Monday, we reported that Canadian national Jordan Bacchus was arrested by police in his home country for possession of drugs. According to the Canadian media, Bacchus will answer to the drug charges in Sudbury, as well as armed robbery and other charges in Toronto and then he will be extradited to Belize where he is a person of interest in the Melvin Almendarez murder in May of 2016 on San Pedro. The twenty-eight-year-old career criminal left Belize after he was being investigated in the murder. Today Belize police shared an update on Almendarez’s murder case that is still open in Belize.

Insp. Wilfredo Ferrufino, C.I.B., Belize City

“We are aware that he is detained there and the file in regards to that incident that he is suspect for is being forwarded to the D.P.P.  There is no indication of any extradition at this point.”

“So, he is wanted in Belize for the murder of Mister Almendarez?”

Insp. Wilfredo Ferrufino

“He is not wanted. He is a person of interest and we would want to ask him some questions but he is not necessarily wanted. Like I said, the file is being prepared and will be sent to the D.P.P. and then we will see what directive is given then we will move from there.”
