Fugitive Jordan Bacchus caught; when will he face justice here?

Jordan Bacchus

There is a major arrest of a Canadian national with a long rap sheet who is wanted in Belize for murder. But it may be a while before twenty-eight year old Jordan Bacchus returns to Belize. He was nabbed during a drug bust in Sudbury, Ontario, north of Toronto, on Friday. Bacchus and a woman were held as police recovered nearly four hundred grams of cocaine and ten grams of “purple heroin,” a mix of heroin and the extremely potent opioid fentanyl, as well as cash and other items. Police spokespersons from Toronto say he will first answer to charges in Sudbury, then further charges in Toronto for armed robbery, extortion and other charges before he can be extradited to Belize to face the murder charge. Bacchus is the prime suspect in the brutal murder of athlete Melvin Almendarez in May of 2016. Almendarez was found dead on May sixth, at a feeder road in Southern Ambergris Caye. He had been shot to death and then run over by a golf cart. San Pedro police had Bacchus in custody at the time on drug charges but he was released within forty-eight hours on bail. Within a week there was a warrant out for his arrest but by that time he had fled the country and returned to Canada despite having surrendered his passport.
