Guats Nabbed Illegally Hunting Wildlife

Earlier this week, we reported on the case of two Guatemalan fishermen charged with illegal fishing in southern Belize. Tonight, Friends for Conservation and Development, FCD, is reporting that on Sunday, a joint patrol comprising of the Chiquibul National Park Rangers, the Belize Defence Force and Special Patrol Unit of the Police Department detained three Guatemalan nationals near cornfields. The trio: Roni Alexander Lopez, Abraham Estevan Depaz, and Encarnacion Depaz from Dolores, Peten were found armed with a twenty gauge shotgun and live rounds of ammunition, as well as with a horse and gibnut. They claimed to be hunting for wildlife. The group was handed over to the San Ignacio Police on Monday to be charged. According to FCD, the hunting of wildlife in the Chiquibul Forest has been continuous near the western flank of the Chiquibul National Park.
