Charles Foreman Sr. Shot; Family in Trauma

Charles Foreman Sr.

As the GSU cracks down on rivalry gangs in the City, another act of violence overnight left an elderly man in critical condition. A bullet penetrated the cheek of fifty-nine year old Charles Foreman and exited his neck as he sat with this family at his house on Pickstock Street on Wednesday. It is believed he was not the intended target and that the shooting is connected to two recent murders. News Five’s Duane Moody reports.

An elderly stevedore is tonight fighting for his life at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital following a shooting on Wednesday night off Pickstock Street in north side Belize City. Around eight-thirty p.m., fifty-nine-year-old Charles Foreman Senior was shot to the face just after he and his family had finished watching the evening news. At least one gunman opened fire and it is believed a family member and not Foreman Senior was the intended target.

ASP Alejandro Cowo, O.C., C.I.B., Belize City

“They observed one Mister Charles Foreman, a fifty-nine-year-old male person with an apparent gunshot wound to the right cheek and exited the right side of the neck. He is listed at this time in a critical condition at the K.H.M.H. So far police have gathered that on that night he was inside of his living room when he heard several gunshots being fired and then realized that he was shot. He was in the company of other family members who escaped unhurt.”

Foreman, his wife and grandchildren lived in the lower flat of this two storey wooden house. The second floor is occupied by his neighbors of fourteen years, who say that they’ve been left traumatized by incident. They hit the floor for cover when the shots rang out; two bullets broke through the window and lodged into the ceiling of their home.

Voice of: Neighbor

“We heard the shots started to fire and my son was shocked because he just stood stiff and my mother had to pull him down to take cover because all we heard was bang, bang, bang. And I had my baby beside me, I had my niece and all of us had to get down to the floor and that’s when two of our louvers came out and two shots to the top of our ceiling. We crawled between our corridor and went into my room and just take cover. And when everything was over, that’s when we heard our neighbor calling out to someone for help. That’s when my oldest sister went down, got a towel and had to put pressure on the wound to stop the blood cause he was bleeding really bad. So she had to help him and then they came and took him to the hospital. We run jokes, we laugh and have fun with each other. But this is traumatizing to everyone, even my kids; they can’t sleep because of this.”

But is this shooting as a result of the ongoing gang war between factions within the area following the recent killings of Leon Garcia and Jermain Vellos?

ASP Alejandro Cowo

“This incident happened at number nine Pickstock Street. Yes, we were able to determine that there may be a possibility as the Foreman that was involved in this shooting last night, might be a relative to the other victims that we are really looking at in the previous murder and family members.”

“I am told that it may be a case that his son might be the target who has the same name. Is that any information you have received?”

ASP Alejandro Cowo

“Not really, but what happen we understand that he was in the company of other persons. And at the moment that it was not him that was the target, but another figure who was at the house, but he was unfortunately the one that was injured.”
