“Dogs” Cracked Trial Farm Boy’s Skull in Mistaken Identity Case

An eleven-year-old student from Trial Farm Government School in Orange Walk is tonight recovering at the K.H.M.H. following a near fatal blow to the head at the hand of another resident in that northern village.  On New Year’s night, Jahmar Ferguson was walking with his brother and cousins in the village when two persons rode by and threw a missile that caught the roof of a house in the neighborhood. That did not sit well with the owners and two men emerged from the yard before grabbing Ferguson and hitting him to the head with a blunt object. The minor was rushed to Belize City where he underwent several surgeries for a cracked skull. His injuries have since been classified as dangerous harm. Patricia Hendricks says her son could have been killed, senselessly.

“Between the hours of eight and nine, my two sons, eleven and thirteen and also two cousins fourteen years old, went visiting with a friend. While on the way to a friend’s house, two guys run pass and throw a stone in a yard and ran, my sons did not run because it was not them who throw the stone. From inside the yard, they could hear, I did come get them right now so my eldest son and one of the fourteen year olds ran. Later on, Jahmar, which is the one who is injured right now, said he heard the man in an ignorant tone said, bwai unu come ya. So they ran and hid in a yard close by. He peep out and that’s what one of them saw him and said, “I got ahn! I got ahn!” From the time they hold him, he said it wasn’t him that throw no stone. All he can remember is one holding him and the next one went back of him and that’s when they hit him. Later on, they bring him out from back of the yard, done the bleed and put him to sit down.  I mean this is a senseless crime and no kinda sense. This neva need fi gone like this mine; your house top noh got feeling. My son ina hospital right now; had to do…when they took a cat-scan, it shows that his skull cracked and had to do emergency surgery. Thanks to God, he is out of the surgery and he regain consciousness. How you could think fi whap this child. And even the surgeon weh perform the surgery say that it had to be a hard hit ih get ina ih head.”
