Arrests for Shooting in Belmopan, Trafficking at Border

Alejandro Cowo

Several arrests have been made in respect of a number of crimes that were committed across the country in December.  Police have since charged a Ranchito resident in connection with the discovery of a quantity of cocaine inside a Lincoln Navigator at the northern border crossing in Santa Elena.  The driver of the vehicle attempted to evade Mexican authorities by racing back into Belizean territory but the vehicle collided near the customs building.  In another unrelated arrest, a pair of men was charged for the attempted murder of a Belmopan resident on Christmas weekend.  Today, updates were provided on those arrests.

“A police constable from Corozal, Pedro Romero, had reported about a navigator with an amount of drugs.  As a result of that, Robert Wayne Gentle, forty-one-years-old, a Belizean resident of Ranchito Village was arrested and charged for drug trafficking. We have the arrest of another male person, reference the shooting incident that occurred on Thursday, December twenty-first, reference the shooting of Jose Amilcar Najera.  Police arrested and charged two male persons in connection with that incident.  They are Ryan Ron Hyde, twenty-four-years-old, a Belizean construction worker of Cotton Tree Village and Denzel Wagner, twenty-three-years-old, a Belizean coastguard officer.  They were charged for attempted murder and Ryan Hyde was also charged for use of deadly means of harm.”
