Three charged in Antelope St. shooting

Three men will appear in Belize City Magistrate’s Court on Monday in connection with Wednesday evening’s shooting at the corner of Central American Boulevard and Antelope Street. Twenty-five year old Jason Brown and seventeen year old Brian Herrera are jointly charged with five counts of attempted murder and one count of dangerous harm upon Roland Small, as well as two counts of grievous harm upon Nikita Smith and Dion Trapp, along with use of deadly means of harm. Meanwhile, twenty-eight year old Winston Flowers, the man who police say was driving the pickup that carried the shooters, is charged with abetment to commit murder. Small was shot in his face, Trapp in his shoulder and Smith in her right foot as they stood at the junction watching a funeral procession.

In other court news, two men have been sentenced to seven years imprisonment after they were found guilty of burglary. Chief Magistrate Herbert Lord sentenced Lionel Wade and Ervin Gentle for the break in and theft of four hundred dollars in household items, committed last September on Jane Usher Boulevard. Prior to their sentencing today, Gentle had five other convictions and Wade two. Delroy Matura, who was charged along with the pair, was found not guilty.
