No bail for 3 accused in shooting

Twenty-five year old Jason Brown and seventeen year old Brian Herrera, both charged in connection with a shooting last week, were today denied bail in Magistrate’s Court. Chief Magistrate Herbert Lord kept the men in prison on the grounds that at as of this morning the victim’s medical condition was not clear. The duo, charged with five counts of attempted murder, are also charged with one count of dangerous harm upon Roland Small, two counts of grievous harm upon Nikita Smith and Dion Trapp, and use of deadly means of harm. The charges against them follow last Wednesday evening’s shooting at the corner of Central American Boulevard and Antelope Street. Small, who was shot in his face, was released from the hospital today, while Trapp, who was hit in his shoulder, and Smith, shot in her right foot, were treated and released the same day of the shooting. Twenty-eight year old Winston Flowers, who was charged with abetment to commit murder, as the suspected driver of the getaway vehicle, was also denied bail. All three defendants are to reappear on February tenth.

Meanwhile, the case of Kevin Alvarez, the policeman known on the streets as “Cowboy”, was adjourned until March twenty-first. Alvarez is charged with the fatal shooting of Albert Pennil on December thirtieth of last year, as he was socializing in front of the Friendship Restaurant.
