Police Await Randy Chambers Statement in Brutality Investigation

Will the trio of officers that brutally assaulted twenty-year-old Randy Chambers on Monday be disciplined internally for physically abusing the young man while in the process of surrendering himself?  The incident unfolded on Chambers’ family property and was caught on tape by a nearby surveillance camera.  The video shows Chambers exiting one property and entering another, locking the gate behind him.  That’s when he was met by personnel from the Special Assignment Team who wasted no time taking him down and pummeling him while on the ground defenseless.  Chambers was pursued by the officers following an altercation between him and another group of persons in the vicinity of Police Street moments earlier.

“All that I can tell you about that incident is that the father had visited the Professional Standards Branch and has made a report.  The victim who is Randy Chambers has not yet come forward to give a statement to the police.  We were told that he would be coming sometime today, so the personnel at the Professional Standards Branch are waiting to see if he will come in to give a statement.”

“Do you guys have any information on the identity of the officers involved?  I am not asking you to name them, I’m asking you if you guys are aware of whom these individuals are, three of them.”

ASP Alejandro Cowo

“Well as a department, we are aware of where our personnel are deployed and we know there location, so we know [that] as soon as the statement has been recorded, we have the video that we are looking at and likewise, like with any other crime, the identity of the person has to be established before anything can be done.”

“Are you able to say what the officers were doing in the area at the time?”

ASP Alejandro Cowo

“That is the area that the police officers patrol, that’s their area of patrol in those areas.”
