N.T.U.C.B. Says Pay Up, in Installments

The Chamber of Commerce and the Belize National Teachers Union have come out in support of payment of ninety million dollars to the Belize Bank for Universal Health Services. Over the weekend, the National Trade Union Congress of Belize met to formulate its own position.  According to the umbrella organization, since the CCJ is the final appellate court, the government is required to honor the judgment. But the union went further to approve a resolution that the debt should be paid in installments. Because of the weak economy, government should make payments to the bank in “installments over a projected period until the debt is fully satisfied.” The release ends by suggesting that a Special Investigating Body be set up to inquire and report on all the transactions and circumstances of the loan note to the UHS,  including questions of ownership and payments made to the bank.
