Shane Stands Up for the Players

Shane Moody-Orio

Shane Moody-Orio, goalkeeper and long-standing national football hero, was elected in May 2016 during the disputed presidential election as a member of the Football Federation of Belize’s executive. Moody-Orio says footballers have benefited from some changes since his installation and can expect much more.

“One of the issues we had that the F.F.B. facility wasn’t up to mark; I must say that now our players, when they are at the Federation, they do enjoy A/C rooms, all of them have their own personal T.V.’s, the facility has been upgraded to that point. Me being a player, that was one of our main issues, that we want the players to be comfortable, to be happy when they are in training. I also headed the Player Status Committee which deals with player status issues and we have had a couple of issues that we have dealt with over the past year, year and a half approximately. And again, we are here to work as a team, with no personal gain, to move football forward, and I believe each of us have a wonderful chance, a wonderful opportunity to leave something for the youths. And the most important thing is for us to prepare them and give them the opportunity – that maybe Mr. Marlon [Kuylen], when Mr. Marlon played, Mr. Marlon didn’t have the opportunity; when my dad played, Orin Orio, he didn’t have the opportunity. So, to provide the opportunity for these young players.”
