The City is Humming to the Blue Machine!

John Briceño

It has been less than two weeks since the People’s United Party introduced its slate of eleven Belize City candidates for the City Council, which the United Democratic Party has held since 2006. The team is already hard at work campaigning on the ground, hoping to convince Belize City voters to go a different route next March. Despite the mocking from their well-heeled opponents, P.U.P. leader John Briceño anticipates a big upset after polls close on March seventh, 2018.

“It is going very, very well. We are quite excited. The team is campaigning in the heart of the U.D.P. – they have been in Mesop; they have been in Port Loyola; they have been in Collet – and everywhere they go they are met with open arms. Yes, there are a few houses where they will tell them we are U.D.P., but they still welcome them. Which is so different than before, because at one time, they will tell you ‘Noh even step ina mi yaad!’ But right now they invite them to come in, and they are listening to them, and to me that is a wonderful indication of what we expect to happen on March the seventh, here in Belize City.”

The team consists of first time mayoral aspirant Bernard Wagner and councilor aspirants, Ayesha Gentle, Doctor Candice Pitts, Delthrude Hylton, Ryan Elijio, Micah Goodin, Oscar Arnold, Allan Pollard, Javier Castellanos, Michael Noralez and Albert Vaughan.
