Faber Challenged over B.I.L.

John Briceño

Two weeks ago, Leader of the Opposition John Briceño revealed that the People’s United Party intended to write Prime Minister Dean Barrow asking for all the contracts awarded by Belize Infrastructure Limited, and details on the people that applied for each contract, to see who has been chosen and the reasons why that person has been chosen.  The party also called for a complete and full audit of what has been taking place at B.I.L.  Instead the letter is addressed to co-chair and Deputy Prime Minister Patrick Faber, who is responsible for the youth, culture and sports portfolios, but the demands are the same.

John Briceño, P.U.P. Leader

“I wrote a letter to the co-chair, the deputy Prime Minister Honorable Patrick Faber and I made a number of demands or questions asking for information, from what the audited statements – we want to take a look at the audited statements if any. We want to see who are the people that are getting the contracts or the companies getting the contracts, have there been open tenders and if there have been open tenders who are the other ones that also put in a bid for these projects and how much, and why is it that company A or company C was chosen over the rest. We also want to find out if the contractors lived up to what they signed on to: were there cost overruns or did they deliver on time or not. We want to have all of this information. B.I.L. is spending the people’s money, and as such, they have a responsibility – i believe a legal and moral responsibility – in making all of this information available, certainly to me as leader of the opposition and also to the Belizean people.”

There is no indication of any response, but Briceño says that once they get a positive response they will analyze any information they receive and share it with the electorate.
