Darrell Bradley’s Eye on the House of Representatives

Darrell Bradley

But is this the last we’ll see of Mayor Darrell Bradley as it relates to his political career? For now, he is winding down at City Hall, but Bradley says his eye is on the House of Representatives. While he was unsuccessful in his bid at the last General Elections when he ran in Caribbean Shores against the P.U.P.’s Kareem Musa, Bradley says that come 2020, Belizeans can expect to see his name on the ballot. The constituency is yet to be determined.

Darrell Bradley, Belize City Mayor

“Politics is something that I love and it is something that I will stay in but again it is a democratic society; the voter gets to decide. I can’t be upset with any result that a voter gives; it is your choice to select who you want. But for me, I think it won’t be the last time my name is on a ballot. I would hope to aspire some day in the future to higher office and to really make a contribution to the advancement and the development of Belize. So to the extent that I am leaving municipal government, I would say that that’s not the end for me hopefully in terms of politics. Again it is the voter who decides, but my name will be on a ballot sometime in the future.”

“Well, I’ll say 2020 because I am not getting any younger, but I’ll also say that there are other ways that one can also contribute. I think that that’s a strong possibility; I’m actually leaning that way. You never know what could happen in life, but I would hope…I mean, when I was a young child, it always was my aspiration to be in the House of Representatives; that has always been one of my dreams. I think that politics in Belize needs a change in significant ways and you need people who bring a certain level of maturity and a certain level of credibility to political office and I think—with people humbly—I think I can do that.”
