Secondary School Volleyball Competition

The central secondary school volleyball competition was held today to select the male and female teams that will represent the central region against the north, west and south. The national finals will be held in Belize City on Friday to select the best of the best of the high schools. After several rounds of competition, Ladyville Technical won to represent the males while Saint Catherine Academy earned the right to play in the female finals. They held a motorcade and pep rally today to celebrate and usher in the big games. Here’s a look at what happened today.

“We are a little bit nervous but we have confidence in our team.”

“And what do you think is your strong suit as a team? What are you best at?”

Jaylen Manzanero

“The hitting I would say. We played SJC. We played them three times; best of three. The games went to five sets but they were good games.”

Kelsey Balderamos

“This is all for the national secondary school volley ball tournament which wll be held this weekend so from four zones; north, south, central and west will have one team in both female and males representing each zone and competing for the national championship.”

“Is this the first time you guys are having a motorcade?”

Kelsey Balderamos

“Same. They didn’t have it my days either. It is the first motorcade that they are having to celebrate this, yes. I believe it is because we are hosting this year. It is going to be in the central division so we are going to prepare for the hosting teams to defend their turf so to speak.”

“How do you feel going into the competition?”

Kelsey Balderamos

“SCA feels very confident. We know it is not going to be easy because the districts are improving as well and the other zones have upped their competition, but we are pretty confident that we can get our ninth consecutive title.”

Ardette Rudon

Ardette Rudon, Coach, Ladyville Tech

“Well we were central champions in 2011, which is a while ago and so the boys are very elated this year. They are excited to play in this competition as central champions as we go up against the other zones from the other districts. So, they are pretty excited and I am excited for them too.”
