Senate Hearing Put Off to Next Week

Channel Five viewers who this morning tuned in expecting live coverage of the scheduled public hearing of the Senate Special Select Committee will have been disappointed that there was none. But notice from the National Assembly issued on Tuesday is that the meeting was put off until next Wednesday, November fifteenth, due to the absence of a key member of the Committee. Today’s canceled hearing was scheduled to feature for the second time, Minister of Immigration Senator Godwin Hulse. Sources indicate that the Committee hopes to wrap up with Hulse next week, and that a few more witnesses are expected to be called before the report is written and presented to the Senate in the New Year. Hulse’s testimony last week ran the gamut of issues at the Department, including treatment of migrants from China, India and the Middle East to the handling of Guatemalans seeking Belizean citizenship.
