Artist “Cross Di Nitro” Charged with Police Threats; He Says He Fears for His Life

Shikell “Cross Di Nitro” Nunez

Twenty-one-year-old Bernard Cayetano, aka Unlimited, a local artist was arraigned on Wednesday in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court for allegedly obstructing and assaulting a police officer, and resisting arrest. He was released on bail but today another artist, Shikell Nunez, aka “Cross Di Nitro” was also taken to court and arraigned, but he did not receive bail.   Nunez appeared after three o’clock before Magistrate Stephanie Gillett and was arraigned on a charge of a threat of death against members of the Gang Suppression Unit and their families. Nunez pleaded not guilty and he asked to explain his situation.   However, Magistrate Gillett informed him that since he pleaded not guilty his explanation can be left for his trial. The Prosecutor, Corporal Noel Muschamp had heavy objections to bail on the grounds of the serious nature of the offense against law enforcement members, saying that these types of actions, if tolerated, could grow into serious offences and lead to terrorist activities.  Nunez also told the court that on the day he made a controversial video, he felt fearful for his life because the GSU had threatened to kill him. According to Nunez, when he realized the effect of the video, he deleted it with the consent from his manager, Kenneth “Big Tom” Flowers. Nunez also said that he finds it hard to understand why the police are fighting them.  Magistrate Gillett made note of all he had to say and in the end denied him bail, saying that she applauded him as an artist, but told him that he has to be responsible.
