CARICOM Heads of Government Arrive for Mexico Summit

At around six o’clock this evening, a number of CARICOM Heads of Government, Foreign Ministers and delegations landed at the Phillip Goldson International Airport in a private flight made possible by the Mexican government. They were greeted by B.D.F. soldiers bearing the flags of the different nations in a small ceremony at the airport, from where they were whisked off to the Biltmore Plaza for a reception.  The heads are here in anticipation of the fourth CARICOM-Mexico Summit.  That event will focus on technical cooperation between the region and Mexico as well as infrastructural development funded through the Mesoamerica Project. Other issues such as agriculture, and trade and Investment will also be on the table. The leaders will discuss the wider issues of sustainable development, climate change and non-communicable diseases. Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto arrives on Wednesday morning to join his Caribbean colleagues for what is scheduled as a three-hour summit at the Biltmore. The Mexican leader will meet with Prime Minister Dean Barrow for bilateral discussions. Before this, however, the CARICOM Heads will be meeting in caucus. The day’s activities are expected to wind down at five p.m. with a press conference after which the President of Mexico departs.
