Stories shifting in alleged Cayo abduction

The bizarre and shocking story of an alleged kidnapping of three school girls in broad daylight has left many with more questions than answers, and it appears that even the police have a hard time putting together the pieces of the story. As we reported on Monday, the incident happened “El Progresso” Community also called “Seven Miles” in the Cayo District, where three young girls claimed that a Caucasian man in the village picked them up and held them against their will his pickup-truck. One of the girls claimed that the man fondled her and was going to sell them off in Belize City. But as they drove through the community one of the minors spotted her father and jumped out of the moving vehicle.

The Caucasian man identified by the girls is said to be a business owner in the area and was well known around the village and to the families of the girls. Police had him detained for forty-eight hours and questioned him about the alleged abduction. But following that interrogation, the man was released pending the outcome of the investigation because they were not able to corroborate the girls’ tale of abduction. It is said that there were too many gaps in the alleged kidnapping account because the minors have given several different versions of events which do not implicate the alleged suspect of any crime.

The matter has been forwarded to the office off the D.P.P., where we understand local experts in interviewing children will be consulted so that a proper account of events can be determined. This will help with a decision on what happens next.

We’ll keep following the story.
