Kareem Musa Says No to Party Leadership for Now

Kareem Musa

This evening, Caribbean Shores area representative Kareem Musa issued a statement on social media declaring that he would not contest the position of party leader of the People’s United Party against incumbent John Briceño. Musa’s name was raised shortly after the National Party Council meeting of September thirtieth as a potential challenger in the upcoming National Convention.  The National Executive of which Musa is a member as a deputy party leader then opened posts for nominations. Briceño’s camp maintained that he had already secured the support of twenty-eight constituencies. Even though he said the party was divided and wanted young leadership, in his statement today, claiming to be flattered that so many would consider him a leader, Musa says he does not want to distract the party or the country from the quest to upend the U.D.P. in the coming municipal elections.

Kareem Musa, Area Representative, Caribbean Shores

“In a few short months, the people of Belize will get to deliver their verdict on this vindictive and corrupt government. I will not stand in the way, and allow even the slightest perception of disunity to impair the capacity of our party to win. Therefore, I will not offer myself for party leader at this time. We must win, and win big, for Belize. The stakes are high. The people are depending on us and we must not let them down. We must become more aggressive and clear in our message to deliver a decisive first strike against the U.D.P. I am prepared for this fight. Together, with the support of you the people, we will fight, and we will win.”
