BIL C.E.O. Must Explain ‘Failed’ Lake I Boulevard

Dean Barrow

The controversy surrounding the cost of the Faber’s Road reconstruction has also managed to tear away the crust over the healing wound that is Lake Independence Boulevard.  That stretch of road from its junction with Faber’s Road and the George Price Highway to the Chetumal Street Bridge was built within the past two years and already it is in deplorable condition.  The road has been patched and resurfaced several times since completion and has been described by PM Barrow as a failure.  Today, he pointed the media in the direction of the C.E.O. of Belize Infrastructure Limited, BIL, Christy Mastry, for answers regarding the disastrous carriageway.

Prime Minister Dean Barrow

“I think a sort of scab has been lifted with respect to that portion of road that unfortunately is failing.  I would want to suggest that you speak to Ms. Mastry who is the C.E.O. of B.I.L.  I have spoken to her because Mr. Moody gave me the same version of events to which he has treated you this afternoon.  Ms. Mastry has her explanation and more importantly I did press her on what’s going to be done to fix what has gone wrong.  I don’t want to try to recount what was said, I will therefore ask you and any other member of the media to pose these legitimate questions to her and I will certainly say to her and I am sure the minister who’s co-chair of B.I.L. will do the same that there has to be a full accounting given to the media and to the public with respect to the failure that obviously has taken place with respect of that Lake-I Boulevard.”
