P.M. Barrow: Criminal Ambush, Not Politics, Led to Albert Cattouse Murder

Albert Cattouse

Almost a week after well-known taxi man and activist Albert Cattouse was executed on Hicatee Street on south side Belize City; there is finally an official report on what happened to the seventy-two-year-old Lord’s Bank resident. It didn’t come from the Police Department or any person from within the Ministry of Home Affairs, but in fact from the Prime Minister himself.  According to PM Barrow, the murder was not politically motivated and Cattouse was killed by his fare.

Prime Minister Dean Barrow

“What I gather from the police is completely at odds with any notion that this was a political hit.  And I am willing to bet my life that no U.D.P. personality in the leadership of this party would ever do something like that. I don’t know how much I am allowed to say about what the police have gathered regarding the circumstances, but I don’t see any of the ministers sort of waving me off, so perhaps I can proceed. It appears the reconstruction the police have been able to come up with, of course to prove what they believe they know is a different thing. But it seems that somebody caught Mister Cattouse’s taxi. The fare had him drive to a particular neighborhood where two other persons came into the taxi and then Mister Cattouse was told that they needed to go to a particular area. By then he realized that a gun was evident and the version that police have been told is that he refused; he said he wasn’t on that. Obviously, the fear was that these people were going to in fact perform some sort of a hit or commit murder or some heinous act and he refused. And according to the report I saw, he told them they had to get out and stopped his taxi and they exited. But when they were exiting, one of them shot him and killed him. So that’s the version of events that the police have been able to come up with sir.”

This is a sad, way too many Gun on the streets of Belize City. And anybody can be shot at anytime. I live in the states (California), and feel a lot safer in the streets and driving my vehicles. Belize, now is like the wild, wild west. Look, why would Belizeans living abroad, want to retire back home in Belize? Belize, has become a dangerous place to live…

Come on people. Come on media. Do you all honestly believe that if a hit was put on a member of the public by any one in the PM’s cabinet, closely related to the government, or by the PM, or by the Police, the PM will come and say, “Yes, it was a hit by one of ours!” That’s expecting to be s**&*t on after being pissed on. No one would indicted himself or his people. To indict oneself is to incriminate oneself. Are we that foolish to think they would say they did.
Every democratic government in this world will do anything legal or illegal to stay in power once it can get away with it!
