U.D.P. Return Francis Humphreys in Dangriga, But Area Rep Not Happy

In other political news, the United Democratic Party held its municipal convention for Dangriga on Sunday at Holy Ghost Roman Catholic School near the sea. Incumbent Mayor Francis Humphreys is running for another term after defeating former councilor Herbert Nicasio by three to one. In terms of votes, Humphreys garnered nine hundred fourteen votes to three hundred and twenty-two for Nicasio. Five incumbent councilors – Cheryl Molina, Alexander Joseph, Earth Lopez, Gary Francisco, and Yadira Diego – were returned to the slate, joined by former mayor Aaron “Jake” Gongora. But incumbent area representative Frank “Papa” Mena, who managed the victorious 2015 campaign by Humphreys and his slate, appears to be unhappy with some aspects of the result. On Facebook, Mena appeared to direct posts at unnamed persons within the U.D.P. saying that with time, his people will know they don’t really care, although he used an expletive. He even dared them to kick him out of the party. Earlier this year, U.D.P. deputy leader Patrick Faber was forced to deny allegations of bad blood between Mena and constituency chairman Clifford “Boss P” Peters, leading to an altercation at a meeting at which Faber was in attendance following his win as deputy party leader.  Mena supported his rival John Saldivar and at that time, Faber said the party would smooth over its differences and be ready for the municipal elections, but it’s clear there is still work to do in that regard.
