P.U.P. Chair Says it’s Time to Unite
While the party chairman agrees that there is no friction within the P.U.P., he says that members of the party should rally around the slate of candidates leading up to the municipal elections of 2018.
Henry Charles Usher, Chairman, People’s United Party
“It was the National Party Council that had called for this national convention and it was done unanimously at that meeting. We had not had a national convention since 2010. The last convention that we had in January 2016 was actually a special convention called because the former leader, the Honorable Francis Fonseca had stepped down so we needed to fill the leadership position within the party. We had not had this call from the National Party Council since then, so I believe that in itself is a unified call. That is a sign of unity, that the party council is saying, listen we want to have a national convention. We want to continue with this leadership, we have built momentum over the last eighteen months and we believe that this leadership needs a mandate going forward. They have done their job, what they said they were going to do from January to now and it’s time to have that convention going forward giving them a mandate. That’s what I believe came out of that National Party Council and that’s what I think you’re going to see going forward. You’re going to see countrywide a call for unity, a call for coming together and rallying for the municipal elections. We will have sixty-seven candidates representing the People’s United Party in the municipal elections. This is the time to rally around them to create that momentum for them because I believe firmly that the party is going to win all if not close to all of these municipalities in March 2018.”
