Fabers’ Road to be Redone for $7 Million

Faber’s Road is getting a major upgrade which is expected to commence immediately.   The contract, to the tune of seven point nine million Belize dollars, was signed today for the reconstruction of Faber’s Road between George Price Highway and Central American Boulevard, a distance of approximately one point nine kilometers. The scope of the contract signed between the Government and Imer Hernandez Development Company Limited include roadway clearance such as the removal of any remnant structures, obstructions, fencing within the road reserve; earthworks; construction of reinforced concrete box drains, sidewalks with roadside curbs and runoff channels; pavement rehabilitation including the construction of a rigid concrete pavement; and the installation of road centerline markings. At today’s signing, Ministers Rene Montero and Anthony “Boots” Martinez spoke on the impact of the project.

“We are signing another contract. If you notice this contract is about people – the people who are going to use it and it is also important about the jobs that it will create. I am sure that there will be over a hundred people working that area because this about over a little bit more than a mile of road improvement. It is important – very important and strategic because it is in the south side of the city. We are committed to improve the city because it is still the commercial center of this country.”

“This Faber’s Road is not only about my constituency. The Port of Belize sits in my constituency and that is the main artery for the cargo going out to the districts and coming in to go to the port. Especially with the Lake Independence Boulevard linking Chetumal Street it is a main traffic area for cargo coming in and out to the port. Right now, the people coming in from the north and going out to the north, the cargo will pass through Faber’s Road and go through Chetumal Street Bridge, Lake Independence Boulevard and people coming in from the west. So, it is a main artery and it is well serving within the country. Presently, with the deterioration of portion of the road it is impassable for the big trucks to pass through so then everybody come through and go through Central American boulevard and then we have the back log of traffic. But now with this road yah it is very important for our community and the country. I welcome and fight for this road because it is very important. Faber’s Road in its initial stages, the last time Faber’s Road was fixed was twenty years ago in 1997. We welcome this huge upgrade. It is good economic boost for my area.”
