Charge for Apolonio ‘Polo’ Kiou in Gabriel Bochnia death
There is an arrest in the murder of the Canadian national, Gabriel Bochnia. The construction consultant, who was living in Corozal for years and was married with three children, was shot to death as he returned from a trip across the northern border. A gunman lay-waited him and opened fire as he exited his vehicle to enter the gate of his property in the Chula Vista area on October fourth. One bullet found its mark on the Canadian national that would cost him his life. His wife, Jeshanah Zetina and children ages, three, six and nine years were witnesses to the heinous crime. The shooter also turned on Jeshanah but fortunately for her, he misfired. She reportedly recognized the gunman and called out the name “Polo” but he fled into the bushes. On Monday, the police arrested and charged Apolonio Kiou of Santa Rita Road Corozal. Kiou, however, could not be arraigned this morning in court up north because there was no available magistrate. The accused, we are told, is a former employee of the Bochnias but since police have gone on mute, we have not confirmed this detail nor information that Kiou was asking to get his job back. Following the deadly shooting; a neighbour spoke to News Five outlining what she saw.
Voice of: Neighbor (File: October 5, 2017)
“Yes they were coming in from Chetumal. They went to take his parents to Chetumal so they can go back to Canada. So they didn’t get into the house or nothing. Coming down from the pickup, this person shot on him and he dropped right there. And his wife dropped and everything; it was something that happened fast because I just opened my door and then I heard the other gunshot. It was a blackout so how the rain and the thunder, we couldn’t see what was happening. But when the lightning came, we saw the person on the floor and that is what helped us to go and help this lady. If not I don’t know what would have happened with this girl because she alone couldn’t pick him up.”
