Post-mortem confirms nitrogen gas inhalation killed David Doehm

A post-mortem examination on the body of fifty-six year old retiree David Doehm of Belize City certified his cause of death as chemical asphyxiation by inhalation of volatile substance. On Thursday afternoon Doehm was found dead in room five-twenty-three at the Ramada Princess Hotel and Casino. He was seated facing a window looking out on the sea, a plastic bag over his head and a tube running from his left cheek to an empty tank of nitrogen gas which he purchased six days earlier. An apparent suicide note in his own hand lay on the table next to him. The first page of the note confirmed his intention to die by his own hand and accused the Government of Belize of conducting a witch-hunt against him and his wife Anke Doehm. The pair was being investigated in the suspicious death of thirteen-year-old Faye Lin Cannon, who was found dead in their San Pedro condo in July. They were ultimately charged with cruelty to a child and were out on bail. David checked into the hotel on Wednesday afternoon and was found by a hotel cleaner less than twelve hours later. Anke was in court fighting custody to get back the children who are in the care of the Ministry of Human Development.
