Gwen Liz revives pageant

Story Picture
On Friday seven young ladies from Gwen Lizarraga High School will be performing to win the hearts of the audience and judges, as well as some much needed funds for their school. The Miss Gwen Liz pageant will be the first since 1995. Today News 5′s Jacqueline Woods caught up with the contestants as they were busy rehearsing for the event.

Vivica Murray, Chairperson, Miss Gwen Liz Pageant

“The young ladies have been working very hard. It has been three months since they have been rehearsing on a daily basis, and they have been doing very well and looking forward to the pageant.”

Jacqueline Woods

“And as you said, the young ladies are not only taking part in the pageant for the fun of it, but actually they are looking to raise some money for this project.”

Vivica Murray

“That is correct. And they are very aware of this and are excited to be doing something for their school. Our motto is “I Came, I Received and I’ll Give Back, and some of the girls are already giving back even before they leave.”

“The purpose of the pageant is to assist with the fencing of campus. We urgently are in need of a fence, and so the funds raised from the pageant will go towards that objective.”

“Highlights of the pageant include Belizean Movements, New Generation dance group and a dance group from the school.”

Marsha Kuylen, Reigning Miss Gwen Liz

“Hi, I am the reigning Miss Gwen Liz, sixteen year old Marsha Kuylen, come out and have fun.”

…And the fun starts at seven-thirty on Friday night at the Belize City Centre. Tickets can be bought at the school or the door for five dollars general admission, eight dollars reserve.
