Credit Union Says Payment Reached Them at Noon Today

Shortly after our interview, the Council’s Director of Finance Marilyn Ordonez confirmed through public relations officer for the Council, Shane Williams, that the H.R.C.U. problem had been resolved and workers would get time off to go get their pay.  But the Credit Union fired back this afternoon with a statement calling the criticism unfair and providing damning proof that someone is telling fibs on North Front Street. H.R.C.U. attached as part of its statement a cheque, for ninety-three thousand dollars plus, drawn on Scotiabank and dated today, October third. According to H.R.C.U.’s Chief Financial Officer Clement Usher and the officer in charge of payroll Melinda Smith, that cheque was delivered to its offices at noon today in respect of payments due September twenty-ninth. H.R.C.U. contends that it has tried to work extremely hard with the Council to facilitate payment of salary for those who draw their monies from there every week. The Council in response stated that it deposits payroll to its bank – presumably Scotiabank – then the bank forwards payment to different financial institutions that employees bank with. But then why is the cheque dated today rather than Friday? And why was it sent today rather than beforehand as alleged? Either way, employees are presumably content tonight that their monies are in their pockets.
