Briceño Says G.S.U. for Rogue ex-Ministers Turned Immigration Agents

John Briceño

On Saturday, following the National Party Council of the P.U.P., Briceño reiterated a party position on the Gang Suppression Unit. He has recommitted to disbanding the unit in a future P.U.P. Government and railed against their lack of effectiveness and dangerous tendency to act as muscle for the Police Department. But before banishing the elite tactical unit, Briceño has one last mission for them to fulfill: arrest the two ex-ministers causing headaches for Director of Immigration Diana Locke with their loitering at the Immigration Department and claims to be ‘agents’ of the department, trapping unsuspecting Belizeans into using their services. Since Director Locke has been unable to, Briceño says, it looks like it’s a job for the G.S.U.

John Briceño, P.U.P. Leader

“As to the two former ministers, yes I heard the two names. I think they were named earlier by a news organization. I do believe that it is wrong. Just by them showing their faces out there, it gives the impression as if they can carry favor from the government because they were former ministers of the U.D.P., and there are going to be a lot of unsuspecting people, citizens that are trying to get their nationality that don’t know better, and can be taken or could probably have been taken advantage of. I don’t know, but probably it has happened. I think the Prime Minister needs to call them out, and tell them that they need to stop, and if they don’t stop then – since he loves the G.S.U., well then send the G.S.U. at them, to get them out of the Immigration Department.”

“Because the director herself seems to have difficulties in getting that done.”

“And I think it is a shame and a disgrace that the Director is asking for help and the Minister is refusing to act; well the Prime Minister then can send the G.S.U. at them to kick them out of the Immigration Department.”

Locke continues her testimony before the Special Committee on Wednesday.
