P.U.P. to Launch Belize City Municipal Slate This Month

John Briceño

Nearly two months after the incumbent United Democratic Party held a contested convention for the Belize City Council slate; the People’s United Party is planning theirs for mid-October. It will be the last slate to be named by the P.U.P. since the other eight were introduced at Saturday’s national party council meeting. Party Leader John Briceño maintained that the party will be ready to take on the four-term incumbents, now led by Dion Leslie, next March.

John Briceño, P.U.P. Leader

“We mentioned that we presented all eight slates with the exception of Belize City. In Belize City we want to do it slightly different, because when you think about it, Belize City is by far the largest municipality, so we want to, one, ensure that we have the right team. But secondly, we want to do something slightly different; that’s why I believe that by the middle of this month, October, we are going to have a convention and we are going to rally the people in the City, to present the team that is going to represent the P.U.P. in the next municipal elections.”

“That convention will be contested, just to be clear?”

John Briceño

“As far as I know, no. Who is handling that is our deputy leader, Honorable Cordel Hyde, and as far as I know, I don’t think it’s going to be contested.”
